Health Conscious Self-Talk

Oftentimes, we are mindful of the ways in which we communicate with other people. Especially as Canadians, we take extra care in being polite. Think about how customer service representatives speak to customers. They often communicate with the public in such a gentle and professional manner (when they are good at what they do). We are cognizant of what we say and how we say what we say because we want to show others that we are kind, respectful, and professional.

Shouldn’t we speak to ourselves the same way? How you talk to yourself informs your feelings and ultimately, your behavior. The words you speak to yourself become part of your self-image.

STOP SAYING START SAYING

I’m such an idiot! I made a mistake.

My Grandmother always said, whatever you call yourself is what others are going to call you.

In The Bible, we are reminded in Proverbs 18:2 that, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” This is a reminder that the words we speak have power. We can talk ourselves up or we can talk ourselves down.

Declaring positive affirmations about yourself out loud might be a very positive experience and an efficient way to combat self-doubt and negative feelings.
