Men's Behavioral Health - Key Points to Remember

1) Just as women experience mommy guilt, men experience daddy guilt. Guys can feel guilty for not spending enough quality time with their children if they are consumed with work and other responsibilities. Men need to be given the opportunity to bond with their kids.

2) Men also experience body issues. This is due to experiences of being bombarded with social media and mainstream media images that tell us what our bodies should look like. Males worry about being buff enough and strong enough. Men should be empowered to honor their bodies and value their overall health first.

3) Oftentimes, men worry about the type of fathers they will become, often as a result of emotional or physical fatherlessness. Although not talked about enough, intergenerational trauma affects the ways in which one parent. Men should be given opportunities to heal from intergenerational trauma and overcome anxiety related to fathering.

4) While the pornography industry is worth almost $100 Billion dollars and it’s so widespread, men who are addicted to pornography often suffer in silence. The psychological effects of PMO on guys can include depression, anxiety, guilt, body image issues, and sexual dysfunction. Men need therapeutic safe spaces to work through their addiction to pornography without judgment.
